Steps To Clean Your Induction Hob

Now that you are familiar with the functionalities of the hob, it is time to know thoroughly about the cleaning process. Even if you do not use it often, make sure you store it in a dry place without accumulation of dirt so that when you bring it out for cooking, a simple wiping with soft cloth will suffice before starting the cooking process. Here are the steps to follow after cooking –

  1. Go for a soft cotton or microfiber cloth that does not leave any scratched from abrasion. If you do not find any, use a soft bristled cleaning brush like those used in makeover as these will remove dirt without being hard on the polished crystal glass surface.
  2. If the hob surface is covered with spilled food or burnt residue, you can use any soft washing liquid mixed with water to wipe over. If the stain is not stubborn, simple warm soap water can do wonders in removing grime and grease.
  3. In case, the surface is a little too hard to clean, take baking soda and vinegar that can be effective in obnoxious stains. Use any soft cloth (as mentioned above) or tissue to soak with a little cooking vinegar and apply evenly on the surface. Before it dries up, sprinkle some baking soda on it and spray water on it or lay a wet towel over the hob. Leave for half an hour or an hour depending on the weather and then carefully wipe the dirt off.
  4. The final step is to dry it with any microfiber or cotton cloth to bring the hob back to cooking condition. You can even use any scraper that are designed specifically for polished ceramic or glass surface but avoid any abrasive material like scouring pads and wire wool.

Things To Consider About Cleaning Your Hob

As only the glass surface heats up while cooking, before cleaning, you should wait for it to cool down properly for around half an hour and after that, you can start cleaning. Here are the things to remember –

  • Do not postpone the cleaning job as later those stains might become too stubborn to get rid of. Remove syrupy, sugary and sticky stains and spillage as quickly as possible with sponge or damp cloth.
  • Do not use cookware that can leave scratches or damage the hob surface. Avoid materials like cast iron, aluminum and stone. Induction-compatible materials like carbon steel, steel and stainless steel should be used.
  • Clean the stains and spills on a daily basis and use a proper kitchen spray or mild detergent for removing grease. Wipe any wet stain before buffing it with dry cloth.
  • For caked or tough stains, you might need razor or scraper –never go for one unless the hob manufacturer permits it. If possible, purchase these directly from manufacturer and if there is none, use liquid cleaning detergent and scrape with a sponge in forward-backward position.
  • Avoid detergents containing ammonia, bleach or any scouring and scrubbing agent. If the surface has abrasions, the stains get more embedded to damage the surface.

Apart from these, you should also be attentive while cooking so that too hot or cold food does not spill on the hob. Even if there is spillage, remove it before putting another cookware on the hob and letting the stain cause more damage to the surface.
